Samuel K. Cullan M.D., J.D.

Education and Professional Background

Before earning his law degree, Dr. Cullan graduated, with honors, from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a major in engineering and a minor in nuclear engineering. At the age of 22, he ran for public office and was elected to the Nebraska State Senate. He served two terms as a senator and, despite his young age, quickly became a leader in the Senate chairing the Health and Welfare Committee and co-chair of the Appropriations Committee. As a Nebraska state senator, Dr. Cullan successfully sponsored and pushed through landmark legislation to fund cancer research, protect the public health and fought on behalf of farmers and other Nebraskans to protect the natural resources of the state.

In 1982, Dr. Cullan earned a law degree with honors from Creighton University School of Law. He entered private practice with his brothers Dave Cullan and Dr. Dan Cullan. While still practicing law, he enrolled in medical school, where he was president of his senior medical school class and a recipient of the Upjohn Achievement Award. In 1987, Dr. Cullan graduated from Creighton University Medical School. He was offered a position with one of Kansas City’s largest insurance defense firms.    Dr. Cullan worked with the firm for two years where he gained valuable experience and insight into how large law firms operate in defending medical malpractice cases and serious personal injury claims.

In 1990, Dr. Cullan founded his own firm concentrating his practice on fighting insurance companies on behalf of injured persons and their families. Dr. Cullan has collected tens of millions of dollars on behalf of his clients in many different types of cases from birth injuries and other types of medical malpractice to semi-truck accidents, and wrongful death.

Other Activities

Dr. Cullan is often asked to lecture at legal seminars and at medical schools. The firm also sponsors free seminars each year for parents of special needs children, including neonatal and pediatric CPR classes and seminars regarding brain injury.
